Medical Centre - DOCTOR and NURSE

A registered doctor (or medical director) and a registered nurse are required to work in our accredited Accident and Medical Centres situated on the mountain at either Whakapapa or Turoa. A & E experience is essential, orthopaedics helpful. Ideally you will be at least 3 years post-grad. Oversight can be provided if necessary. A Doctor with FAMPA accreditation would be ideal but we would be happy to talk about the position with Doctors who also have A&E experience.

Outdoor Positions
 

Bus Driver

Drivers will need to be experienced, confident and seek to keep their passengers entertained! A current bus license is mandatory. Applicants need to be able to drive safely in conditions that are often extreme on the mountain roads and may be required to demonstrate driving skills at an interview. Other duties include those of a Road Services Attendant. A loud voice and a sense of humour work well in this role!

Cleaning Attendant

Let’s face it – this is a pretty important role!

You need to ensure all staff rooms, public areas and toilets are cleaned and restocked. The ability to ski or snowboard is useful as this is the quickest mode of transportation between facilities on the mountain. You may be asked to help out in the café outlets wherever needed to help control business levels.

Distribution Attendant

Don’t let us go hungry! This position is responsible for transferring goods throughout the ski area facilities. As this work can be physically demanding, you will need to be fit and able to lift heavy goods. Good communication skills, a valid NZ driver's license and the ability to drive in snow conditions are essential.

 

Lift Attendant

If you’re not having fun in this role you’re not doing it right!

This position primarily involves the safe loading of customers using the lifts. The ability to communicate to a variety of people from different backgrounds and ages and a BIG SMILE are essential. Other tasks include shoveling snow, some maintenance of lift equipment, moving equipment and ski racks, deicing of lift towers and snow clearing. A good attitude and a fun way of dealing with people are essential.

Mountain Host

This is a VOLUNTEER role and is very important to the mountain operation. You will be a great ambassador for Mount Ruapehu and your main purpose is to guide for small and large groups.You will need to have a thorough knowledge of Mount Ruapehu terrain and must be an advanced skier or snowboarder.

Lead Chef

Road Services Attendant

Could be called “Directors of 1st Impressions”…..This position involves the safe and smooth flow of traffic up and down the road, directing traffic and safely positioning vehicles to park. A helpful disposition and BIG SMILE are essential. Other duties include fitting chains to cars on days when there is a restriction on the road due to ice or snow and providing information to customers.

Stores Superviser (Turoa)

Previous experience will be an advantage. In this role you may be based off the mountain. You will liaise with the Purchasing Supervisor on what supplies are needed on a daily basis. You will receive stock and take accurate account of what comes in and what you send out. Basic food safety knowledge is essential as is a Fork Lift License, a valid NZ driver’s license and the ability to drive in snow conditions.

Ticket Checker

As well as greeting customers at lift stations and making them feel welcome, this position is responsible for scanning and checking all lift passes at lift stations. A mature outlook and excellent customer services skills are required as dealing with invalid passes must be handled in an appropriate manner.

Distribution Supervisor (Whakapapa)

We need you to get things going places!

Previous warehouse experience will be an advantage. You will liaise with the Distribution Team Leader on what supplies are needed on a daily basis. You will receive stock and take accurate account of what comes in and what you send out. You will be responsible for the distribution attendants and facilitating the daily stores operation.  Basic food safety knowledge is essential, as is a valid NZ driver’s license and the ability to drive in snow conditions.

Distribution Team Leader (Whakapapa)

In this role you will be required to work with the Café Outlet Supervisors and Distribution Supervisor to make sure ample product is ordered and delivered to the outlets to meet the business demands. Must have previous experience in purchasing food & beverage supplies and be computer literate. You will be responsible for facilitating the whole distribution function and assisting with preparing monthly reports and facilitating stock takes around the outlets. A Valid NZ driver's license and the ability to drive in snow conditions are essential.

Electrician

We have a great opportunity for a registered electrician to join the maintenance team at Ruapehu Alpine Lifts. Responsibilities include the maintenance and development of the ski area's commercial and industrial electrical equipment. The position offers interesting and varied work and a unique challenge for someone who enjoys the outdoors.

Groomer Operator

Your “office” has the best view on the mountain…..This driving position involves the operation of snow groomers and/or excavators to groom the slopes and shift snow around the mountain. Machinery and/or ski area experience is preferred. HT license is essential. Hours worked in this position are predominantly at night.

Maintenance Attendant

This position is specialised. Previous industry experience and/or a trade qualification is preferred. We require electricians, builder, fitter welder and heavy diesel mechanics. Duties include maintaining all buildings, lifts, plant and equipment and deicing of lifts.

Purchasing Supervisor (Turoa)

In this role you will be required to work with the Café Outlet Supervisors and the Stores Supervisor to make sure ample F&B is ordered and delivered to the outlets to meet the business demands. Must have previous experience in purchasing food & beverage supplies and be computer literate. The program INTOUCH is used at the backend to control stock levels and transfers between café outlets.

Ski or Snowboard Instructor

Instructors are required to be available to teach all ages and programmes creating a fun, safe and caring learning environment. We invite applications from instructors: a current ISIA Certification is preferred (NZSIA stage 2) or equivalent, for example:

Austrian Landesschilehrer, CSIA and PSIA Level 3, Swiss Snow Sports Level 2 and 3, APSI Level 2, Italy-Maestro di Sci, France – National Premier Grade, Germany – Staatlich or Verbandsskilehrer. NZSIA stage 1 and equivalent qualified applicants with suitable experience and skills will also be considered.

Ski Patroller

This position provides first aid, rescue and avalanche control services to the ski areas. Prior industry certification is required and experience in this area is preferred. A minimum Pre-Hospital Emergency Care and Avalanche Level 1 qualification is essential. Snowmaking Attendant

This specialised team is responsible for making a large volume of high quality snow on the main trails and is in charge of maintenance of the snow guns, waterlines, hydrants and high pressure pumps.You must be safety conscious, able to hike and work in extreme weather conditions and have solid communication skills. As much of our snow is made at night/early morning there is plenty of time during the day for skiing/snowboarding.

Terrain Park Ranger

Duties include carrying out maintenance and patrolling of the terrain parks and facilities. A high level of communication skills and safety awareness is necessary, as is previous experience in a similar role. You will need to have extensive knowledge of the terrain park function. Grooming experience is useful.

Trail Safety Crew

Firm but friendly…this small team is responsible for the education and enforcement of the Snow User Responsibility Code amongst customers. A high level of customer service and safety awareness is necessary due to the extensive interaction with public. This is a varied role working for other departments during peak periods as required. Applicants must be intermediate to strong skiers or snowboarders.

Indoor Positions
 

Barista

Fast and friendly? Great coffee comes second only to great snow here! Skilled and experienced Baristas are required for various outlets located on the mountain. Other duties may include cash handling and food and beverage service.

Cafe Supervisor (8 cafeteria outlets)

Supervisors of licensed outlets require the correct New Zealand liquor licensing certification (LCQ). Previous food and beverage experience and the ability to manage a team of staff and order stock are essential. As are cash handling, good verbal and written communication skills. These positions will report to the Food & Beverage Manager.

Chef

This position requires previous experience in a busy deli or café operation. Must have certification for basic food safety. Will maintain food standards at all times. You will be asked to help out in the café outlet wherever needed to help control business levels.

Cook

Requirements for this role include a basic understanding of food prep as this role assists the Chef in doing food prep and basic sandwich construction. Must have certification for basic food safety. You will be asked to help out in the café outlet wherever needed to help control business levels.

Distribution Inventory and Payroll Clerk (Whakapapa)

This position requires previous payroll experience and computer literacy.  The program INTOUCH is used to control stock levels, purchases, deliveries and transfers between café outlets. A high level of accuracy is required. This role is responsible for the mail and courier process, (incoming and outgoing) and assisting with the Distribution operation wherever needed.

Finance Cashier

Hey moneybags! This job requires someone honest and trustworthy with a good head for numbers and problem solving. Duties required include daily reconciliation and re-floating up to 40 floats, follow-up of non-balancing tills as well as spreadsheet reporting. Finance cashiers at times help out in other departments so there are plenty of opportunities for variety in your work.

Food and Beverage Attendant

Our customers and staff can work up quite an appetite – F&B can be a really rewarding department to be a part of!

This position offers variety working in the various outlets around the mountain under the supervision of the outlet supervisor. Duties include clearing and cleaning tables, stocking fridges and displays. Cash handling skills are an advantage as is previous experience.

Kitchen Supervisor 

This position requires previous experience in a busy deli or café operation and short order presentation. Certification for basic food safety is essential Assisting the Lead Chef by maintaining food standards, participating in stocktakes, ordering and stock control and facilitating a team during café operation are all requirements of his role.

Kitchen Staff

Responsibilities range from food preparation and sandwich construction to dish washing. Applicants with relevant experience and/or the appropriate industry qualification are preferred. You may be asked to help out in the café outlets wherever needed to help control business levels.

Rental Attendant

With excellent people skills a must, this position involves sharing the fun and excitement of being at Mt Ruapehu and supplying our customers with all the equipment they need to enjoy it. Fitting and adjusting skis, snowboards, boots, clothing, helmets etc is all part of a days work in this busy environment where initiative and teamwork are required. Although skiing/snowboarding experience is preferred, full training will be given.

Rental Ticket Seller (Whakapapa only)

This position involves advising on and selling packages, lift tickets and rental products to our customers.  You must enjoy assisting people, be able to communicate clearly, have prior cash handling experience and be confident using a Point of Sale terminal. This role exists within the Rental Department and is part of a large close knit team where a willingness to join in where needed is important.

Customer Services Attendant

You need masterful communication skills, an unbelievably good customer service philosophy and the ability to do 5 things at once without breaking a sweat. This is a busy and rewarding role.

Applicants will need to be familiar with all aspects of front desk and customer service operations. This position provides information and directions for customers, processes lift and season passes, deals with school and other groups, handles complaints, lost property and provides administrative support to the organisation. A genuine willingness to please and smiling with your eyes are essential.

Customer Services Ticket Seller

Most positions are daily part time or casual part time. Previous cash handling experience is useful. People skills are a must, as is the ability to pass on information clearly to customers, providing advice on the best product for their needs. Big smiles and big voices are essential.  At Whakapapa some Ticket Sellers also help with reconciliations so finance cashier experience is helpful.

Group Host (Customer Services Dept)

If you love kids, have a big voice and love organising people/schedules then this is a great role for you. Mt Ruapehu has a huge number of school kids that visit each season and we need people to ensure they make it here on time, make it through the rental department in one piece and make it to their lessons on time. But the most important thing is to make sure they have fun!

Rental Workshop Technician

With a keen knowledge of skiing/snowboarding, this position involves advising and completing all repairs and tuning of skis, snowboards and boots (including maintaining a large rental fleet). With two well equipped workshops (including one Montana SnowChallenge Robot at Whakapapa), and changeable snow conditions, experience is required. Participating as part of a team, having fun, and a willingness to ‘do all things’ is essential.

Retail Attendant

There are three Vertical stores at Mt Ruapehu  -  two at Whakapapa and one at Turoa.

The stores are located at different points on the ski areas and are stocked to best cater for customers' needs at those locations. Vertical is a fun, positive and customer driven environment to work in. There is a high level of interaction with customers on a daily basis and it is a stimulating place to work. The type of person best suited to work in Vertical stores possesses a natural ability in being customer driven, is consistent at delivering genuine and helpful service and enjoys helping customers make decisions and find resolutions to all their needs, must be an effective communicator and have a fun and positive personality. Attendants are required to learn product knowledge on all items stocked and ensure the customer is purchasing the right product for their needs and budget. Sales are done through a computerised POS, attendants will process returns/credits and warranties while maintaining good customer care, be active in following up on orders and communicate effectively to customers and supervisors about these orders. Attendants are responsible for the appearance of the stores and maintenance of stock levels including  ordering and receiving stock between the Vertical stores.
